Lucy is an amazing 4 year old boxer. She was rescued by a rural dog shelter after an animal cruelty investigation. Everyone seemed to pass Lucy by and her week was up so I took her into my home. She is AMAZING with kids and other dogs. Doesn't mind cats. She is VERY laid back for a boxer. I think she is happy to be out of a bad situation. The only thing that seems to bother her is when someone walks up fast behind her. She doesn't growl or bark she'll just get up and walk away. I think she just needs alittle TLC. Lucy is up to date on her shots, including rabies, has been heartworm tested negative and put on preventative. She is licensed and spayed. She will need nothing until June 2010. When we took her to the vet she had hookworms AND fleas. She has been treated and now shes worm/flea free! :) Due to the worms shes alittle skinny, so she needs some puppy food mix in with the food that will come with her! She is brown and white with a bit of black on her muzzle. She has brown specks on all of her white areas ( around her neck and paws). Her fee is simply her vet fees, pull fees, and license fee. $150. She will come with a collar, her vet records, and the rest of her food. We are trying to save puppies from being euthanized in high kill shelters. If we cannot get foster homes for these babies, they are at the end of the road. Our motto is "no one is left behind". If you can open your home and heart to foster one or two of these precious pups, you will have such a rewarding experience. We do not have a shelter ourselves, but rely fully on foster care. This means that we can only take as many pups as we have foster homes for. To be foster you will need to fill out an application, have a phone interview, and let us do a home visit. When you foster, you accept an animal into your home to be treated as your own dog until it can be adopted (generally 3 days to 3 weeks, but nothing is unheard of). Fostering is great and so much fun, but it can be challenging at times too especially since most of our puppies aren't potty-trained. You just provide the food and love. Smallsville Pavilion at the Oakland Animal Shelter, is for dogs under 20 pounds. They all hang out cage free, interacting and socializing with visitors. We still have a lot more decorating to do: furniture, wall paintings, etc., but the dogs are there, so please come and visit them at 1101 29th Ave in Oakland if you want to adopt a small size dog. We currently have dogs from 7 pounds to 20 pounds and they are changing constantly. As dogs get adopted we move more small dogs in. To adopt, your application must be approved and if you own your home, you must show proof of home ownership with tax bill. If you rent, you need landlord permission in lease agreement or written permission letter. If you decide you want to learn more about a specific dog, you can ask the volunteer to take you and your family to the "get acquainted room" where the entire family can interact with the little dog. Smallsville is still a work in progress, lots of decorating to do and we are looking for volunteer artists to help paint the walls with murals. Many small dogs are available for adoption right now, so come and visit Oakland Animal Services soon. We also have many other dogs of all sizes up to a Mastiff size. Actually, a 130 lb. Mastiff is available right now. And a 90 lb. Sheepdog was recently adopted. Our goal is to decrease the total number of animals being euthanized in animal shelters each year by finding new, permanent homes for them. Our animals come from a variety of circumstances. We do not yet have our own kennel facility, so all of the animals we take in live in "foster homes" or with their owners until they are adopted.
