| Description | Smallsville Pavilion at the Oakland Animal Shelter, is for dogs under 20 pounds. They all hang out cage free, interacting and socializing with visitors. We still have a lot more decorating to do: furniture, wall paintings, etc., but the dogs are there, so please come and visit them at 1101 29th Ave in Oakland if you want to adopt a small size dog. We currently have dogs from 7 pounds to 20 pounds and they are changing constantly. As dogs get adopted we move more small dogs in. To adopt, your application must be approved and if you own your home, you must show proof of home ownership with tax bill. If you rent, you need landlord permission in lease agreement or written permission letter. Please refer to adoption requirements at OAS web site. http://www.oaklandanimalshelter.org/index.php?m=show_doc&pid=38&z=4 Smallsville has many small dogs all wandering around freely, so we ask that young children stay behind the gated area. The adults can enter Smallsville and interact with the dogs, but let them come up to you We ask that you do not force the dogs to interact with you; they need a little warm up time to feel secure and safe with new people. If you decide you want to learn more about a specific dog, you can ask the volunteer to take you and your family to the "get acquainted room" where the entire family can interact with the little dog. Smallsville is still a work in progress, lots of decorating to do and we are looking for volunteer artists to help paint the walls with murals. Many small dogs are available for adoption right now, so come and visit Oakland Animal Services soon. We also have many other dogs of all sizes up to a Mastiff size. Actually, a 130 lb. Mastiff is available right now. And a 90 lb. Sheepdog was recently adopted.
